Born in Thomasville, NC to the late parents of Marion and Verna Garner, she graduated from Hasty High School and attended Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston Salem, NC where she received her degree in X Ray Technology.
Mona loved to golf, travel, flowers, gardening and socializing with friends.
Upon retiring to Sarasota in 1998, she lived and belonged to Heritage Oaks Golf and Country Club in the winter time and Kenmure Golf and Country Club in Flat Rock, NC in the summertime.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 39 years, Harmon; loving children, Vanya Smith (Eric), Preston Smith and Melissa Glidden (Chris); sister, Golda McGuire; cherished grandchildren, Cavan, Branson, Andrew, Matthew and Sarah.
A Celebration of Mona's Life will be held from 4 pm to 6 pm on Wed. Apr. 27, 2016 at Palms Robarts Funeral Home, Sarasota, FL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.
