On Friday, March 19, Craig passed away peacefully surrounded by his devoted family. Craig will be lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 50 years, Liz, and children Peter and Sarah, his sisters, Margo Hurley (Patrick) of Haddonfield, NJ and Anne (Peter) McAndrew of Pleasantville, NY, along with his nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Louise Pickford of Denver, CO and brother-in-law John Pickford (Karen) of Chicago, IL. He was the son of Bob and Jane Schreiber and brother to Kathryn, all deceased. Born in Boston, raised in Milford, NJ and a 40+ year resident of Colorado, Craig and Liz happily landed in Lakewood Ranch 8 years ago.
Despite living with limitations, Craig was always planning his next adventure with his endless determination and sense of humor pushing him along. He loved to travel, creating great memories for all with his “10 year plan” of places to experience. He enjoyed the mountains and beaches, skiing and boating, riding in a convertible, anything where he felt the wind in his face and a sunset on the horizon.
Craig and his family were especially tied to the early years of Keystone Mountain in Colorado where he lived and worked in several capacities for the ski area. As a graduate of the University of Colorado/Boulder in Business, he worked over the years as an accountant, purchasing agent, realtor and owned a small assembly company called Cape Cod West. He was also very proud of his accomplishment as the youngest Eagle Scout in the region.
As a lifelong learner and a voracious reader, Craig didn’t go far without a book in hand. After retiring he volunteered as a Special Needs aide for middle school students in Colorado Springs and the Adult Literacy Council of Sarasota. His abundant patience made Craig a warm and gentle teacher.
He loved spending time with his family and wonderful friends, always ready for his next adventure!
As a Jimmy Buffet fan, Craig could identify with the following quote: “I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.”
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when it is safe for everyone to attend.
You may leave a message for the family at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park.
