

Richard Raymond Mellott, 61, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. Born on January 16, 1963, in Quantico, Virginia, he was the son of the late Charley Mellott and Jeannette Simmons. Richard was a 1981 graduate of Adrian High School in Adrian, Michigan. For 41 years, he worked as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, earning the Hero Award, Excel Award and the Patient Care Technician of Excellence Award multiple times.
Richard was passionate about bicycling, hiking, and spending time outdoors. He attended Bayside Church and had a deep love for God. Known for his compassion and dedication, Richard went above and beyond for people, always helping others with a caring heart. From a very young age he knew his calling was to help people, which led him to pursue a career in nursing. Known for his quirkiness and fun-loving personality, he always had a smile on his face. He brought so much joy and laughter to everyone he encountered. His family described him as an "angel in human form" because of his selfless nature and love for helping others.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Penny Mellott.
Richard leaves behind his beloved wife, Mary Deshaies; daughter, Megan Mellott; step-daughters, Michelle Tran and Marina Deshaies; sister, Sharon Dougherty; stepmother, Marilyn Mellott; stepsister, Lisa Hays; stepbrother, Steve Mellott; nephew, Adam Litchfield; and his nieces, Kaia and Layla Litchfield.
On January 4th, 2025 at 10am, a wake will be held along with a celebration service followed by a reception at Bayside Church-Bee Ridge Campus.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Mothers Helping Mothers, Sarasota Humane Society or TWLOHA (To Write Love On Her Arms)
