Robert G Hornig

Bob passed away in the comfort of his home on July 16th of 2026 with his wife, Judith Gleave-Hornig, of 25 years.

A kid with intelligence to skip a year and a half of elementary school, continued on to Washington University in St. Louis, MO and received his degree with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering.

Bob was drafted into the Army and served at Fort George G. Meade Maryland from 1953 to 1955.

He first worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., in Akron, Ohio. Then, he continued on to work for Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. as a Chemical Engineer for 32 years.

He loved traveling to other countries and he enjoyed the cruises.

Bob loved to golf and spent many years golfing. He stated that it took a lucky day to get a hole in one...he received two.

Also, playing card games and dominoes with the children and grandchildren he always enjoyed...and set out to win. He was a good man and will be dearly missed by all that loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Judy, daughter Katherine Butler and husband Martin Butler, his stepchildren James (Will) Wilbert and Jackie Johnson.

His grandchildren Helen(Matt) Bollinger, Adam(Christina) Butler, David(Jordon) Butler, Alisa Johnson, Anna Johnson, and Amber(Garrett) Livesay.

Great grandchildren James Bollinger, Judy Bollinger, Lily Johnson, Zoe Johnson, Amelia Butler and Dorothy Butler.

He is known by Bob, Grandpa, Grandpa Bob, and Pop-Pop-Bob.

Preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Dorothy(Bentley) Hornig, and a son David.

Arrangements by Robert Toale & Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park.

He will be buried at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. With his family, who first came to America from Germany, and this is where the Hornig surname ends.

A private Celebration of Life will take place at a later date, with his favorite German food and beer mugs will be raised with many memories of a long life.
