Rose Bauer, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2021 at The Tidewell Hospice in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. She was 100 years old. Rose was predeceased by her parents and by her ten brothers and sisters.
Rose is survived by her loving husband of 75 years, Reinhard “Eddie” Bauer, her son, Barry K. Bauer (Susan) of Bradenton, her grandsons Peter Bauer (Beth), Garner, NC, and Scott Bauer (Jennifer) Boynton Beach, FL. She had one grandson, Matthew Bauer, Garner, NC.
Rose was born in Miner’s Mills, Pennsylvania, where she was one of eleven brothers and sisters. As a young girl, she moved to New York, where she met and married her husband, Reinhard “Eddie” Bauer.
Rose was always creative and talented, making her own clothes in the latest styles. Her sense of flair was admired by others.
Rose studied to become an interior designer, but later found her true calling to become a hair dresser. She had her own shop in Cammack, LI, where she had a long list of repeat customers who loved to come in and spend time with Rose. She was known for her warm manner as well as for her talent. Customers at Rose’s all became friends. She not only fixed their hair, she would offer them a sandwich, share recipes, and be a compassionate listener who always respected the confidences shared with her. Customers knew they could count on Rose for an honest opinion.
Perhaps the biggest joy of Rose’s life was her family. She loved her husband, Eddie and her son, Barry and made it a point to always be there for whatever they needed. She was exceptionally proud of her son’s accomplishments. Her grandsons, Peter and Scott, were also very important to her.
Rose loved to travel. She and Eddie went on many cruises and vacations to Europe. Her favorite destination, however, was Las Vegas. Rose was always lucky on the slot machines and had many big wins.
Tired of shoveling snow and wanting to be closer to their son, Rose and Eddie moved to University Park, Florida 14 years ago. Here they made many friends and looked forward to getting together to play cards. In Florida, Rose enjoyed an afternoon excursion to the Hard Rock, where she continued her winning streak on the slots.
Rose was a staunch Republican. She loved her country and had a definite opinion about our government. She believed in hard work, honesty, and taking responsibility. She attributes her longevity to a daily glass of wine and to always telling the truth.
A graveside service for Rose Bauer will be on Tuesday, November 2 at 12:30 at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice of Lakewood Ranch.
