

Sandy S. Biles, 64, passed away peacefully from her battle with lung cancer in Sarasota, Florida. Sandy was born in Washington DC to Everard Hall Smith Jr and Irene Lucille Pinson Smith on June 28,1959.
Sandy attended Beauvoir School and The National Cathedral School for Girls in Washington DC, from which she graduated in the spring of 1977. Sandy was a US National Swimmer and received many awards for her accomplishments. She swam for Kenwood Country Club, and Solotar Swim Club in the Washington DC area. She was admitted to The University of Georgia on a full swimming scholarship, later attended High Point College in North Carolina and Graduated in 1982 from Augusta College in Georgia.
Sandy and her husband Willis Lindsey Biles II met each other in the US Virgin Islands as teenagers when Sandy’s swim team went to the islands to compete against the US Virgin Island swim team. They met at a New Year Eves party in 1977. A love affair blossomed, and they wrote to each other for years, got together and married on July 9,1983.
Willis joined the Navy as a Naval Aviator in 1983. Sandy and Willis for the first two years traveled from duty station to duty station. Ending up in Virginia Beach, Virginia where they lived for 36 years. While in Virginia Beach Sandy became the Head Age Group coach for Tidewater Aquatic Club and the Old Dominion Swim Team, where she retired, so she could travel the world with Willis.
Left to remember her loving memory is her husband Willis of 39 years; children Jennifer Lindsey Biles, RN at Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center as a Nursing Clinical Manager and Laura Elizabeth Biles, First Officer Republic Airways, both of Virginia Beach. Jenny is married to Agata Alina Nowak, from Poland, a Mental Health Counselor, and they have two beautiful children, Jude Liam Biles and Julia Elizabeth Biles, Sandy’s grand kids. Also surviving her is her brother Dr. Everard Hall Smith III, retired, Wilmington, North Carolina.
Sandy was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and sister, with a wide circle of friends. Sandy had a great love for life. She loved her daughters, grandkids and her cats and dogs. Here hobbies included cooking and travel, and she was a lifelong fan of the Washington Redskins.
Sandy was a survivor of breast cancer and for many years went to Charleston, South Carolina for the annual Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer walk.
