Shirley Ann Pence

June 15, 1939April 9, 2019

Shirley (Shirl) Ann (Safranski) Pence was born June 15, 1939 in Downers Grove, Illinois. She entered into Paradise April 9, 2019 in Sarasota, Florida. Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Don of almost 62 years; daughter, Carrie (Bob) Brandon; grandson, Nick Smego; three great-grandchildren, Michael, Jonathan, and Zoey Smego; and her faithful companion, Pumpkin.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Christopher Smego; her brothers, Frank, Lenard, and Richard Safranski; and her parents, Frank and Sophie Safranski.

Shirl enjoyed making people smile and laugh, it did not matter if she knew them or not. This was not hard for her to do, she had that contagious, beautiful smile and a great sense of humor. Shirl was charming, witty, and always had good comebacks. She was one of the sweetest and nicest people to know.

She was very dedicated to many causes: Heritage Park Zoo, Yavapai Humane Society, and Yavapai Big Brothers Big Sisters, just to name a few. Her passion though was always with the animals.

Even though her light has gone out on earth it will forever shine bright in the hearts and memories of those she left behind. Fly high our beautiful angel.

A Celebration of her life will be held on June 15, 2019 (her birthday) from 12 until 4 p.m. at the Prescott Club at Stoneridge, 1601 Bluff Top Dr., Prescott Valley, AZ 86314. A memorial tribute will be followed by appetizers.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to the Guide Dogs of America, 13479 Glenoaks Blvd, Sylmar, CA 91342.

With a heavy heart it’s hard to see someone so special leave this world but heaven gained one amazing angel. I have had the pleasure of being in your life for fourteen years. You were like a grandmother to me, we have had so many good memories together and with the family, memories I will cherish forever. You allowed me to experience things in my life I would have never had the opportunity to, and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate that, you are one of the funniest ladies I know and one of the most giving. One day we will be reunited in heaven, until then here are a picture from some amazing memories.
Love and miss you Bema!

Where to start with such a captivating, devoted, generous soul like yours Shirl. The world lost so much when you left us, but your endless love and generosity still lives on through family and friends. The stories we will be able to continue to tell and look back upon will always have you apart of them because of the impact that you left. I will miss your smile, the conversations that would always leave our bellies hurting, the love that you had for all animals, but certainly most of all the holidays where we came together as a family and made lasting memories. You’re forever in our hearts, loved and missed so much.

Shirley, you were an angel of angels. I loved your smile, sense of humor, kindness, and warm nature. Everyone who was lucky enough to know you, knows this. I worked at The Mirage from 2005-2008. R.I.P. God bless you. You were truly one amazing lady.

I’m going to miss you so much, you were a big part of this family and it’s going to be different without you. You were such a loving person with the best personality, someone who said what was on her mind and loved people for who they were. You could always make everyone laugh and smile, the world is little more dim without you but know that we loved you and will never forget the happiness you showed to us.

My Darling Wife Shirl, I just want to say how much I love you and will never stop loving you.
Throughout the years we had our ups and downs but we always came back together stronger!
You could always make me smile even when I was down.
We both have a beautiful daughter to be very proud of. When I look at Carrie I can see a lot of you in her smile and laughter.
I know one day we will be together again in Heaven.
I love you so much and always will.
Your Loving Husband,
