Susan Twible Lestock, 68, went home to the Lord on Sunday, November 11, 2018. She is predeceased by her loving parents, Harlan and Alice Twible. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James McCluskey and Diana McCluskey, as well as her siblings, Pamela, Barbara and David Twible. Susan was born in Oak Park, Illinois, and spent much of her childhood in Michigan City, Indiana, as well as Colts Neck, New Jersey. She then attended the University of Vermont and earned a degree in Home Economics. This began her life-long love of cooking, a bit of eating and working with children. She helped to shape the lives of many children through passionately teaching Home Economics for 30 years, while living in both Ohio and Florida. She was their teacher, mentor, point of encouragement and role model. After retirement in 2015, she continued helping children by tutoring at Church of the Palms Presbyterian church, located in Sarasota, Florida.
Susan loved to gather with friends, including at parties, playing bunco, sharing a cup of tea or engrossed in conversation while knitting. Her love of cooking and baking were always present at every gathering, particularly holiday celebrations with family and friends. Nothing made her happier than a “good snack”, a “tiny” muffin, or a dollop of jelly.
She endured many medical trials, but persevered with unwavering strength and grace. Her love of life, and her faith were strong enough to overcome the many medical challenges she faced. She found joy by sitting peacefully with her dog Rocky by the quiet, sunny waters of Bradenton, Florida. She flourished in the sunshine!
A memorial service will be held Monday, November 26, 2018, at 3PM, in the Chapel at Church of the Palms, which is located at 3224 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, Florida, 34239. Reception to follow the service. In lieu of flowers, please honor Susan’s life with donations to Samaritan’s Purse (samaritanspurse.org).
