Sylvia graduated from Binghamton Central High School in 1947. After graduation, at age 19, she married Morris Shuman, a World War II veteran. She and her husband raised their family in Binghamton, NY.
Sylvia was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved nice clothes, and always made an effort to look her best.
She was a proficient Mahjong player. She loved animals, roses, the color pink, the smell of lilacs and the taste of cinnamon.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Lena Feldman; husband, Morris Shuman; and son-in-law, Gordon Shayler.
She is survived by her children, Bonnie Shayler, Harry Shuman (Aaron Wade) and Randi Bartholomew (Fred); grandchildren, Hannah Shayler (Justin DiMatteo), Todd Shayler (Shayna Pollock), Freddie Bartholomew (Leslie Modlin), Alex Bartholomew (Lucy) and Justin Bartholomew; and great-grandchildren, Kai DiMatteo, Milo Pollock, Luca Pollock, Stella Bartholomew, Serena Bartholomew, Joshua Bartholomew and Bennett Bartholomew.
