Todd H. Barton passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, at the age of 73, in Sarasota, FL surrounded by family. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, uncle, cousin, and friend. Born and raised in northwest Indiana, Todd graduated from Munster High School (1970) and earned a BA in criminology and sociology from Indiana University (1974). After earning his MA in Judicial and Public Administration from the University of Southern California (1976), he embarked upon a distinguished four-decade career in public service dedicated to improving court systems and government operations across the United States and overseas, including London and Singapore.
A visionary and award-winning leader in courtroom design, policy, and operations, Todd spearheaded master planning assignments for local, state, and federal courtrooms and government agencies. His professional journey took him from Lake County IN to Berrien County MI, Wausau WI, Birmingham AL, Tucson AZ, Columbia SC, and over a half dozen counties in Florida before dedicating the last chapter of his career to the court of Kings County CA near Visalia, where he and his wife, Mary, lived happily for over twenty years. Soon after retiring in Sarasota, Todd’s commitment to serving the public good compelled him to share his decades of experience and run as a candidate for Sarasota County Clerk of Court and Comptroller.
Todd’s moral compass was always set to social justice. He battled on behalf of, and alongside, his employees, always championing what was right and fair, regardless of the cost to him personally or professionally.
While his professional accomplishments and awards were substantial, Todd will undoubtedly be remembered for his sharp wit and unparalleled sense of humor. His quick observations and clever quips became legendary among colleagues and friends alike. Todd had the ability to connect with people from all walks of life; his care and compassion for others was genuine. He was a loyal friend and a truly gifted listener, whose relationships and unwavering support stood the test of time and geographic space.
