

Virginia A. Squire aged 96, predeceased by her parents Lavinia F. Adams and Edwin L. Anderson and her husband the Rev. Vernon F. Squire. Survived by daughters Cynthia Doty of Hallandale Beach, FL, Rebecca Squire of Milford, CT and son Barry Squire of Sarasota, FL. 3 grandchildren, Sean Squire of St. Petersburg, FL, Katherine Capone of Marietta, GA and Sarah Zuniga of Sarasota, FL, and two great-grandchildren, Sophie Capone and Amelia Capone of Marietta, GA.
Virginia was a 1951 graduate from the University of State of New York at Cortland, with a BS in Education (8th in her class). In addition, she accumulated 60+ hours of graduate studies in education commensurate with a Master's degree. As part of one of these studies she authored a book, "The Peck-Jones House".
Mrs. Squire taught school as a kindergarten teacher for 27 years, in various districts throughout New York State: Germantown, Red Hook, Angola, Mahopac, and Rush-Henriettaq. Retiring in 1989, she spent 6 months in Clearwater, Florida and six months in Pittsford, NY.
Virginia was a charter member of the Henrietta Quilt Club (Where she was given honorary life membership), and later also joined the Genesee Valley Quilt Club, as well as Largo Cracker Quilt Club in Largo, FL. She had two quilts selected to be published in "Quilting Today" in 2001 ("Patched Plaid Stars" and "Oh Plaid Stars"). In the Largo Cracker Quilters Club, she served as Historian for several years as well as program chairperson. Virginia was an avid quilter, making numerous quilts for her children and grandchildren as well as other charitable organizations.
Mrs. Squire also became interested in collecting Shaker artifacts and furniture. Virginia had accumulated substantial pieces of Shaker furniture and small items. She was also a member of the Rochester Area Shaker Study Group. She also attended the annual Shaker Seminars at Hancock in Massachusetts for over twenty years. On one occasion she also taught a class in her daughter's elementary school in New Haven in Shaker life and culture.
