OBITUARY

Vittorio Bommarito

May 1, 1936February 22, 2021

On February 22, 2021, Vittorio Bommarito, loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away at the age of 84. Vittorio was born on May 1, 1936 in Palermo, Sicily. He immigrated to the United States in 1954 before marrying his late first wife Mary in Brooklyn, NY with whom he shares his eldest daughter Josephine and late daughter Joanne. In 1966 he married Rosaria Pirri, sharing two daughters: Giovanna and Sandy. Vittorio’s smile was infectious and stubbornness genetic. As an iron worker, Bruce Lee fan, casual house flipper, and less than legal street racer, he was in no short supply of strength and fighting spirit. This was evident even in his last days. Vittorio somehow loved his family even more than he loved sweets, always proudly carrying photos of his children and grandchildren in his pocket alongside his Vick’s cough drops and Smarties. He could always be counted on if in need of a helping hand, a (bony) shoulder to cry on, life lesson, or as a personal chauffer. He is preceded in death by his first wife Mary, daughter Joanne, four siblings, and his parents Mario Bommarito and Giuseppina Piuntauri. He is survived by his wife, Rosaria, three daughters Josephine, Giovanna, and Sandy, sisters Nancy and Stella, eight grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on February 25, 2021 at 5:00 pm and on February 26, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Ave, Sarasota, FL. Graveside Service will be held on February 26, 2021 at 3:00 pm at Manasota Memorial Park, 1221 53rd Ave East, Bradenton, FL. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Vittorio’s name. Vittorio will be forever remembered for his gentle eyes, generous heart, warm embrace, and unconditional love. Arrangements entrusted to Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Avenue, Sarasota, FL 34232, (941) 371-4962.

My dad was only 5 31/2 but to many he was 6' tall. He was strong, determined and fearless. I remember many times when he did the impossible. When I called him from school needing "help" He flew to my rescue. What normally would take 30 minutes, he made it in 12 minutes. He would often joke that he drove on the sidewalks. I think it was more factual than a joke. I remember when a girl was picking on me and wanted to fight me, he showed up. Dad you were an amazing dad. You suffered more heartache than any man should suffer, but never lost your compassion and empathy for others. Dad I love you to the moon and back! We will see each other again. I know you are making a place for us in your heavenly mansion. Till we see each other again <3
