William (known as Kinny and Bill) grew up in Betsy Layne, KY where his parents owned and operated the Hunter’s store (grocery and feed store). He served in the United States Army during WWII from 1945 through 1946. After completing his military service, William received his Bachelors of Science degree from Transylvania University and his Masters Degree in Public School Administration and Supervision from Appalachian State in 1969.
William moved to Sarasota, Florida in 1957 where he dedicated his career to the Sarasota County public school system as a coach and teacher at: Southside Elementary (1957 – 1962), McIntosh Middle (1962 – 1982), and Sarasota High School (1982 – 1992). William also became a Boy Scout leader as he enjoyed camping and scouting in his youth.
William is survived by his wife, Kathleen Markey Hunter, 4 children, 12 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild: Kenneth Richard Hunter (wife, Lisa); Amanda Hunter Reher (husband, Brian); Kathleen Rebekah Bossio (husband, Christopher); Ashleigh Hunter Sabolcik (husband, Michael). Grandchildren: Bethany Hunter Fox (husband Rawley, daughter, Vivienne), Sean Hunter, Caitlin Hunter, Tatum Hunter, Hunter Reher, Carson Reher, Rebekah Bossio, Ian Bossio, Joel Bossio, Noah Bossio, Parker Sabolcik, and Sydney Sabolcik.
William cherished his family, had great pride for his country, a deep faith in God, a love for all sports; especially the University of Kentucky's basketball team.
William touched many lives during his years of coaching, teaching, and involvement with the Boy Scouts. His love and legacy live on through all of the lives he touched.
Military service will be held on June 22, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. EST at the Sarasota National Cemetery. Followed by a Celebration of Life service at Palms -Robarts Funeral Home at 11:30 a.m. EST
