Wendy Hobson died peacefully in her sleep Saturday evening on July 14, 2018. She was 95 years young at her passing. She was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts on June 6, 1923. The third born of 10 children. She was the first in her family to attend college. She did this by serving in the Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) in Norman, OK. She attended Pratt University in New York City, studying Merchandising, graduating in 1949. She worked at Lord and Taylor and Grover Cronin. She moved to Sarasota, FL in 1952 and started a job at Whispering Sands Resort on Siesta Key. She met her future husband Stanley Alfred (Al) Hobson (deceased) while working there. They were married May 30, 1953 in Sarasota, Florida and had 4 children. Together they ran an accounting business called Tax Computer Inc.
She was the daughter of Norman and Winnifred (née Amero) Dulong of Gloucester, MA. She had 9 brothers and sisters, Stanley Dulong (deceased), May Hobbs (née Dulong) (deceased), Priscilla Cahoon (née Dulong) (deceased), Norman Dulong (deceased), Margaret Bailey (née Dulong), Evelyn Poole (née Dulong), Fred Dulong (deceased), Ralph Dulong (deceased) and Janice Plant (née Dulong).
She is survived by her 4 children John Hobson, Spouse June, Michael Hobson, Spouse Patricia, JoAnne Stegenga (née Hobson), Spouse Mike and Robert Hobson, Spouse Kathleen. She had 8 grandchildren, Johnathan Hobson, Nicole Miller (née Wood-Sangelo), Jennifer Herrera (née Hobson), Laura Praetorius (née Stegenga), Anthony Sangelo, Kevin Hobson, Daniel Stegenga, Tyler Stegenga and Hannah Stegenga. And, she had two Great Grandchildren, Finn Hobson and Taylor Rose Hobson.
She loved to travel, visiting many states in the USA. As well as visiting Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico, Australia, and Canada. She began to train and run marathons in her 70’s. She delighted in socializing with friends and family, continuing to play cards with her friends each week. She loved keeping in touch whether talking on the telephone, in person, a quick note or maybe even a Facebook post. She had a strong belief and was a faithful member of her Catholic church and she volunteered whenever she could.
