

The world became brighter on May 15,1985 when Zach was born to Ken and Lisa Thomas in Wamego, KS. The firstborn child of three boys, Zach spent his early childhood and elementary school years in Tecumseh, KS, attending Sacred Heart School in Topeka before his family relocated to Sarasota, FL in 2001. Upon graduating from Venice High, Zach immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served our country for 8 years with the 2/2 Fox Company and was deployed three times including a combat tour in Fallujah in 2005 with Operation Iraqi Freedom, receiving several awards throughout his service including the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (W/1 Star), Combat Action Ribbon (Iraq), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (3), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal (2), Letter of Appreciation, Expert Rifle Badge (4), and Sharpshooter Pistol Badge.
After an honorable discharge in 2012, Zach received his associates degree. He worked as a first responder in Southeast Florida and Tampa before relocating to Sarasota once again, taking over and beautifully growing the family business - Lighthouse Lawn Care. On May 10th, 2024 he married Marissa Madison, his best friend and love of his life.
Zach was a sports enthusiast, die-hard Kansas University Jayhawk fan, and enjoyed traveling, especially to concerts or to visit his many friends and family throughout the world. He lived life to the fullest, never turning down an opportunity for an adventure. He was known for his quick wit, passionate personality, confident convictions and gigantic heart. He will be truly missed.
Zach was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Evelyn Desch, and Wayne and Carole Thomas, along with several extended family members and Marine Corps brothers. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Marissa; his parents, Ken and Lisa; his brothers, Ben (Amber) and Scott (Jennica); nephew, Wyatt and niece, Josie; his many aunts, uncles, cousins, 2/2 Fox Company brothers and a multitude of friends.
A visitation for Zach will be held Wednesday, July 24, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Robert Toale and Sons Funeral Home at Palms Memorial Park, 170 Honore Ave, Sarasota, FL 34232. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 7900 Bee Ridge Rd, Sarasota, FL 34241.
