Elizabeth Farrell Gallo, a dedicated educator and a woman of profound faith and Irish pride, passed away peacefully on May 1st 2026. A longtime resident of Scarsdale, she leaves behind a legacy of intellectual curiosity and a heart for service. Born on March 30, 1927, in the Bronx, Elizabeth was the daughter of Thomas Farrell of Adare, Co. Limerick, and Julia Fahy of Mount Bellow, Co. Galway. Her parents arrived in the United States in 1912, instilling in Elizabeth a deep appreciation for her heritage. She was educated at Villa Maria Academy and graduated from Fordham University, Class of 1949. Driven by a passion for learning, she went on to earn her master's degree in Education from SUNY, setting the stage for a distinguished career in teaching. Elizabeth's career as an educator spanned several institutions and impacted students of all ages. She taught at Abbey Lane in Levittown, NY, and at the College of Mt. St. Vincent. Perhaps her most impactful work was at the Greenburgh-Graham School, where she dedicated herself to teaching students with disabilities. Her patience and belief in the potential of every child defined her professional life. Elizabeth believed that education was not just about sharing knowledge, but about providing a voice and a future to those who needed it most.
An active and faithful parishioner, Elizabeth was a mainstay of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Scarsdale, NY. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her through both her quiet moments and her years of service to her community. Elizabeth is reunited in peace with her beloved husband, Rudolf Gallo, and her daughter, Elizabeth Gallo, who predeceased her. She is survived by her son, John Gallo, and daughter-in-law, Maureen Treacy Gallo; her son-in-law, Christopher Simons; and her two granddaughters, Gillian and Emily, who were the light of her later years.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Elizabeth's memory.
