Frank M. Headley Jr.

Frank M. Headley, Jr., 86, passed away peacefully at home on September 11, 2026. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on June 30, 1940, Frank lived a life defined by professional excellence, public service, civic leadership, and, above all, deep devotion to his family.

A graduate of Denison University and Fordham Law School, Frank served as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, spending two years on active duty from 1966 to 1968. He went on to practice law for more than five decades at Bertine Hufnagel Headley in Scarsdale, NY. Over the course of his distinguished legal career, he was admitted to practice before the New York State Bar, the United States Court of Military Appeals, the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the United States Supreme Court. He held an AV Preeminent rating and was consistently recognized as a New York Metro Super Lawyer starting in 2013.

Frank’s dedication to community and civic affairs ran deep throughout Westchester County. He served as Chair of the Advisory Board for the Westchester Community Foundation (a division of The New York Community Trust), sat as a Director of Scarsdale National Bank and Trust Company from 1977 to 1989, and later served on the Regional Advisory Board of The Bank of New York through 2000.

His commitment to the legal profession extended statewide. Within the New York State Bar Association, Frank served as Vice President of the Ninth Judicial District (1996–1998), Treasurer (1998–2002), Chair of the Finance Committee (2003–2007), and a member of the House of Delegates across three decades. He was also a Director of the New York State Bar Foundation beginning in 2004, President of the Westchester County Bar Association (1984–1986), President of the Westchester County Bar Institute (1991–1997), and a past President of the Legal Aid Society of Westchester County.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Frank’s true center was his family. He and his beloved wife, Carol (Collister), met in third grade and shared 61 wonderful years of marriage. Scarsdale, NY, was the heart of their home, a gathering place for generations to celebrate holidays, birthdays, and life’s special milestones.

An avid golfer, Frank achieved a coveted hole-in-one at Royal Poinciana Golf Club in Naples, FL. He also spent many cherished years at Scarsdale Golf Club in New York, sharing special moments with family and friends both on and off the course.He was an enthusiastic fly fisherman, loved cross-country road trips with his young family, and treasured summers as well as countless holidays and weekend getaways surrounded by family and friends at their second home on Nantucket. He also held a deep affection for the Adirondack League Club, where hiking, hunting, and fishing created lifelong memories.

Above all, Frank loved gathering his family, especially for his famous post-grace dinner blessings, where he always shared his favorite sentiment: “It’s good to be together.”

Frank is survived by his wife, Carol; his sister, Kathryn Stoddard; his daughters, Jennifer Ryan and Suzanne McCormick (Michael); and his seven grandchildren, Courtney Atwater (Hayden), Reid Herrington, Sean McCormick, Bailey Harriott, Casey Harriott, Kyle McCormick, and Abigail McCormick. He will be deeply missed by his family and many dear friends across the country.
