Henry Irving Burr

Born on March 24, 1928, in New York City, Henry lived a long, vibrant, and accomplished life defined by family, friendship, business success, and an enduring love of sport and competition.

He attended Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School before graduating from Yale University, where he was a collegiate swimmer. Henry spent the majority of his life residing in Scarsdale and West Palm Beach, building deep friendships in both communities.

Henry devoted his professional career to the printing industry, leading American Book Stratford Press, a highly successful book printing company that was publicly listed on the American Stock Exchange. He was respected not only for his business accomplishments, but also for his integrity and acumen. He also served as President of Visual Reference Publications for more than 40 years, publishing more than 100 architectural pictorial books.

Outside of work, Henry was an avid athlete and competitor. He was especially passionate about tennis and golf, continuing to play both well into his late 90s. Friends and playing partners regularly marveled at his athleticism, skill, and competitive spirit at such an extraordinary age. He also greatly enjoyed the camaraderie and challenge of playing bridge.

Henry was predeceased by his beloved wife, Suzanne Burr; his daughter, Aimee Burr; and his sister, Trudy Gleckel. He is survived by his son, John Burr; daughter-in-law, Patti Burr; grandsons, Thomas Burr and Scott Burr; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services and reception are tentatively planned for Thursday, May 28, 2026, in Scarsdale, New York, pending final travel arrangements. A funeral service is expected to take place at 1:00 PM at Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Home, followed by interment at Ferncliff Cemetery and a reception afterward. Final details and timing will be confirmed and shared with family and friends prior to Thursday.
