Graduated from Coronado high school with Alan. Didn't know him well but never forgot a taller red headed, freckled guy.
Appears he lived a full life; just past too soon.

Al and I were friends in school at Coronado, and later at UTEP.  We were both in drafting with Mr. Jones, and math with Mrs. Hines.  We laughed until it hurt some days.  The slightest thing would set us off. 
One time I put my size 7 loafers into his size 16 or 17 and clomped up to the pencil sharpener.. Very silly, but very funny at the time.   We had so much fun riding on the dune buggy he had built, cruising the levee and drainage canals in the upper valley.  After high school our group went bar hopping in Juarez, and were always happy to see Al's father at the Bridge!  Al was a car guy and rebuilt the engine of his 65 or 66 mustang.  It was funny seeing a 6 foot 6 inch man "wearing" the mustang, how he loved that car.  After college we moved to Houston and later to Chicago, but Al came to our home when he was in town.  He never changed, was always the same funny and warm friend, and I am glad he came to the 50th reunion so we could catch up.  God Bless you my friend.

 The word which describes Al for me is fun.  I enjoyed every minute spent with him.  His family traveling to Ohio for summer vacations in the 50's and 60's.  My first airplane trip was a visit to El Paso (1969?).  Al provided a memorable visit.  I moved to Phoenix in 1979.  Visits to Globe,  Gold Canyon, Rocky Point and Mesa  followed.  Remember the day trip to Young?  We enjoyed a visit to the Barrett-Jackson auction, Diamondbacks and Suns games, too.  

On June 3, 1951, you entered this world. I was so happy to have a little brother! 
Who would have ever guessed that you would grow up to be my BIG, BIG little brother? You were so big and strong at 6' 6" and 300 pounds. Whenever we visited each other, you took great delight in greeting me with a bear hug and then lifting me off the ground. To me, you were a kind, gentle and generous giant of a man. You had a great sense of humor, a positive can-do attitude, a strong work ethic, and a fun-loving nature. With your extrovert personality, you really liked people and socializing, always surrounded by friends and family.
You were so proud of project team accomplishments in your professional career:
•	ISASMELT process first in the USA; installed in early 1990's 
•	ISO 9001: 2000 the only smelter in USA to achieve this certification
•	$450 million plant expansion resulting in 99.9% clean air emissions free of sulfur.
But you always said your greatest accomplishment and pride-and-joy has been your children, Amy and Brian.  You spent quality time with them in so many activities: swimming, shooting, golfing, softball, basketball, volleyball, jet skiing, fishing, racing sand rails, rebuilding engines, and even planting peach trees.  You stressed education; both graduated from ASU.
You wondered out loud to me if they “would step-up-to the plate” in your time of need as they were so busy with their own lives. Oh, my gosh, did they ever! They were amazing! They love you very much.
You have been a huge part of my life from the day you came into this world until the day you left. I so much wish you could have stayed longer. I am really going to miss you, my BIG, BIG little brother. It is so quiet.  I keep expecting the phone to ring with a call from you. I have been so blessed with your presence in my life for 71 years.
Mom and Dad always preached, “You two boys are not going to fight; you are going to love each other.” And we honored our parents’ wishes. I love you, brother.






I first met Al Binegar in 1980 working at   Inspiration on a smelter project team putting in a new converter.  I was warned to stay away from those crazy people at the smelter.  Al B was one of them.  Al was my boss as smelter manager.  He was always supportive of the resource recycling department which I appreciated.  He was fun, fair and made meetings much more fun.  Rest In Peace - Big Al.

Oh Big Al!  He was a work colleague, neighbor and wonderful friend; most importantly he was the kindest, funniest, supportive and genuine person we had the pleasure and honor of knowing for over thirty years. As a work colleague we faced many operational, technical, regulatory and workforce challenges with light hearted professionalism leading to success. As a close friend and neighbor we shared engulfing hugs, weekend happy hour horn cocktails, fishing and boating on “Al B Back” in Mexico, summer camping in the White Mountains and just simply hanging out solving the world’s problems.  After retirement we continued our friendship through long distant phone calls filled with ridiculous banter and laughter.  Al has big shoes to fill, unless you’re a wine bottle. A bottle of Ressler’s homemade Minnesota wine would conveniently fit in each shoe for a safe flight back home to Arizona. We will miss Al tremendously but are blessed to cherish the memories. Alan was my first and longest friend.   We became friends in Mrs. Fitzpatrick's first-grade class at Zach White Elementary.  He was already taller than anyone else in the class.  I have so many wonderful memories of him as we grew up.  Quick to laugh, wonderful smile and wonderful storyteller...and a great friend.  I met my wife because of Alan.  In 10th-grade geometry class seating was alphabetical... he was Binegar she was Bittick.  He had Linda laughing all through class  and introduced us to each other when I told him I was interested in meeting her.    
When I think of Alan I think of Henri_Frederic Amiel who wrote “Life is short. We don't have much time to gladden the hearts of those who walk this way with us. So, be swift to love and make haste to be kind”  
My friend Alan did that better than anyone I know.  And I will miss him.

My name is Allan and I was always Little Al when around the big guy.  I do weigh over 260 pounds so you can picture Big Al.    Al B. was one of my best friends for over 40 years.  We grew up in the smelter business and worked hard and played hard.  Al was always the good guy loved by everyone.  He cared for doing the right thing and was humble in what he accomplished.  That philosophy made him a success with all who knew him.  I will miss him very much, as many of the things that I do in this life were started as part of the friendship I had with Al B.  He will land in the good place and I hope he has the time to enjoy friends that are already there, and, if we are lucky, he will enjoy those of us that will join him someday,

I have far too many fond memories of Al to choose a favorite.  I met him in 1989 when I went to work at Cyprus Miami Mining Co. in Claypool, AZ.

We worked together for many years, and Al was a key member of a great work team that faced and conquered many challenges together.

He was an incredibly intelligent, kind, caring man and had a sense of humor that was a joy to witness.  We worked in an extremely challenging field, and Al consistently had a smile on his face.  Some of the laughs we shared were a big part of our daily routine, and were a critically important part of my life.

Fortunately, we were able to continue the laughter and camaraderie after we retired, and we spent many pleasant hours socially, inevitably reliving our times together professionally.

However, the thing I will remember most about Al was his love for his  children.  Over the years, he consistently placed them first, and they were his beginning, his middle, and his end.  More than once, my wife Lynell and I have remarked  how genuinely and completely Al epitomized the definition of the word "father".

My deepest and heartfelt sympathy to Amy and Bryan and all of Al's loved ones and friends for their loss.  

We are diminished, but the good memories will last forever.  I will never, ever forget Al's hearty, robust laugh.  Just imagining it puts a smile on my face.

Many years ago, we all worked for Inspiration Copper Co. (now Freeport McMoran) in the Globe-Miami area.  A wonderful going away party was held where I was to be presented a copper bar name plate.  Al B. was carrying in this name plate and dropped it.  A chip in the corner appeared.  Al was so apologic and was going to have another made for me.  I said "no", it now has a story and character.  That name plate resides on top of our desk and that chip now has a bigger story and character.  Love to Al and his family.  You will be missed!




I met and had the pleasure of working with Big Al at TFM in the DRC.  He was a great guy and fun to be around.  Prayers going out to his family and many friends,

Al was a member of the "Valley Kids" in the Upper Valley, El Paso.  We were all hard working kids that spilled over to hard working adults - Al was one of the hardest working.  Whenever Al walked into a room, though, the party was on! Al's big smile, generous nature, and bear hugs will always be remembered.
