Born in Chicago, Illinois, Anne lived a very, very full life. She graduated from high school in 1943 and attended Northwestern University until January, 1945. Anne and the love of her life, Ray, were inseparable from their high school days until his passing in 2023. During Ray’s service in World War II, the two faithfully corresponded through letters, and they were married on February 7, 1948—a remarkable 75 years together.
The couple first made their home in Chicago and later in Park Ridge, Illinois, before relocating to Scottsdale, Arizona, in 1970. After his service in the Navy, Ray built a long career with Motorola in both Chicago and Phoenix, while Anne devoted herself to raising their two children, Mark and Diane, and managing the household.
Together, Anne and Ray built a life centered on family, friendship, and shared joys. They enjoyed golf, bridge, golf, travel, golf, parties, and time with friends and family, especially their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
They especially loved traveling to Sedona, Arizona, where they owned a timeshare for many years. Anne’s favorite international destination was Greece, making several trips there with her mother, sister, Ray, and friends. She also traveled to many states throughout the United States, from New York to California and Wisconsin to Florida. In 1992, Anne and Ray took their children and grandchildren to Hawaii, creating treasured family memories. Throughout her lifetime, Anne was also blessed to attend the baptisms of several of her great-grandchildren.
Anne and Ray were active supporters of the HonorHealth Foundation and gave generously to help provide quality health care. Anne had a deep love for animals and was a longtime member of the Phoenix Zoo. For more than five decades, cats were a cherished part of her life.
She was an avid golfer, swimmer, bicyclist, and walker who remained active well into her later years. In her early and middle years, she loved sewing and created curtains, clothing, pillows, and many other handmade items. She also enjoyed playing cards—even when no one else was around—and continued playing solitaire into her 90s.
Anne loved music, played the piano, and enjoyed dancing. Later in their golden years, she and Ray became more home-centered, enjoying quiet time together. Even as her memory declined, her caring nature never changed. She always asked about family and friends—what everyone was doing, the pets and animals in their lives, and the activities of her great-grandchildren.
Anne will always be remembered for her kindness, her enthusiasm for life, and her deep love of family. Even nearly 100 years never seems like enough time with someone so cherished.
Anne was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray, and her daughter, Diane.
She is survived by her sister, Florence; her son, Mark, and his wife, Paula; her son-in-law, Jim Haynes; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Green Acres Heritage Library * 401 N. Hayden Road, Scottsdale, Arizona 85257.
