Barbara Elizabeth Sontag

Barbara E. Sontag, 84, a resident of Mesa, Arizona, died Thursday, September 27, 2018. The former resident of Roscoe, Illinois was born June 19, 1934 in Mineola, New York, the daughter of Joseph H. and Clara Cass Hoke, and married to John A. Sontag, Jr. on October 8, 1960 in Loves Parks, Illinois. She attended grade and high schools on Long Island, moving to Rockford, Illinois in 1952. She attended Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg, Virginia for one year and graduated from Beloit College, Beloit, Wisconsin in 1956. She was a member Pi Beta Phi, Rockford Woman’s Club, the Junior League of Rockford, and Daughters of the American Revolution. She moved to the Phoenix area in 1997. Survivors include three children, Sarah Vesco (James), Mesa, Arizona; Anne Wnek (David), Mount Prospect, Illinois; John A. Sontag III (Laurie), Calimesa, California; and seven grandchildren, Brianna and Jennifer Vesco, Kailyn and Matthew Wnek, and Emily, Matthew and Sarah Sontag, along with one great-granddaughter, Isabella Affee. She was predeceased by her husband in 1992. A memorial service will be held at Mesa Good Shepherd in Mesa, Arizona at 12:45 on Wednesday, October, 3rd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley.
