

Catherine Guarino was born Catherine Marie Sutera on September 20,1922 in Boston Massachusetts. Her parents Rose Verdi and Giacomo Sutera were Italian immigrants from Sciacca, Sicily who came to America and settled in Boston. Catherine had one brother and five sisters. Her family was a very close family who didn't have much money but worked hard. In 1942, Catherine married Joseph Bono, a commercial fisherman. During their thirty five years of marriage they had five children; Vincent, Anna, Rosalind, Kathryn and Jacklyn. They also had ten grandchildren. While her husband was out to sea, Catherine raised her children alone, sent them to school, took care of them when they were sick, while overcoming obstacles in her own life. She also taught her family many Italian traditions like cooking, and baking Italian cookies for the holidays.Holidays were full of love, laughter, family, friends, and of course plenty of food. Her passion was crocheting, making handmade dolls and blankets for family and friends. Catherine had a strong religious background and practiced her strong faith, sending her two youngest daughters to catholic school. In 1976, Catherine moved her family to Scottsdale, Arizona after the passing of Joseph. It was there where she raised her youngest daughters alone while helping to raise her grandchildren. In 1986 Catherine married Thomas Guarino an old family friend.She and Thomas would travel to Boston and spend the summers with his five children, and spend winters in Arizona. Catherine was a strong person who loved life. Her family and friends were very important to her, and in spite of her many obstacles, she persevered Catherine taught her children to love each other, to always be there for one other in a crises and to live a spiritual life, never to judge people. Her daily prayers were a sign of her love for God and people. Catherine will never be forgotten and live in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
