After graduation, he joined the Air Force and served four years during the Korean War. Following his military service, he married Wilma Armes, and they recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. They have two children: Michael Grannan and Karen Henderson. Michael and Ann live in Southern Indiana, Karen and Jason live in Scottsdale, Arizona. They have two children, Aaron & Abby.
Gus worked at the Census Bureau and retired after 35 years. He also volunteered at Clark Memorial hospital in Jeffersonville, Indiana and worked as a barber for many years. He took pride in always keeping his home and yard meticulous and loved Indiana Basketball. Gus and Wilma moved to Fountain View Village in October of 2017, where they have made many friends.
