Cyril Jerome (Jerry) Rousseau, passed away June 20, with his wife Georgia (Jeannie) and close family by his side. Cyril was born April 23, 1939 in Cheyenne Agency, SD to Mildred (Traversie) and Camille Rousseau. Jerry graduated from Aberdeen Central High School. After graduation, Jerry enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served 1957-1963. He served as a police officer for the City of Aberdeen and worked as a math teacher at Flandreau Indian School. In 1967, he graduated with his BS from Northern State University and began a career with IHS until 1996. He earned the IHS Director’s Award of Excellence in 1989 for his work as the National EMS Training Coordinator. He worked in emergency management with FEMA during Hurricane Katrina. Jerry and Georgia (Jeannie) married November 7, 1963 in Aberdeen, SD; married 54 years. Together, they traveled all over to visit relatives, including their yearly summer trips to the Dakotas. Jerry and Jeannie spent lots of time in Las Vegas and enjoyed playing Bingo. Jerry will be remembered for his love of all sports (including rodeo), traveling, and teaching Lakota language classes. He was larger than life and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Jeannie; children: Yvette Chambers, Stephanie Rousseau-D’Avignon, Monique Rousseau, and Judd F. Rousseau; 11 grandchildren (LeiLani, Dustin, Lindsey, Derek, Thomas, John, Madison, James, Julian, Isaias, and Anahi); and 5 great-grandchildren (Lincoln, Bliss, Aaron, Delta, and Hattie).
