At his request, no immediate service will be held but a Celebration of Life is scheduled for Thursday, March 27th at Green Acres Cemetery on Hayden Road in Scottsdale, AZ.
Danny (also known by friends and business colleagues as Dan or Daniel) was born in Middletown, Ohio on November 15, 1943 to the late Florence and Sam Oditt. Sam was serving in the Army at the time and he lived with his mom and grandparents, Daniel Hayden and Goldie Lykins for the first two years of his life until the World War II ended and he was officially able to meet his father for the first time. Educated in Oakwood, a suburb of Dayton, Ohio, and student of the University of Cincinnati, he went on to have a successful career in consumer product advertising in the ‘Windy City” where he worked as an advertising executive for Keroff and Rosenburg. It was in Chicago and in his twenties when he met the love of his life, the late J. Wesley Brown. The two had a committed and loving relationship for over 57 years, marrying in 2015. Twenty-seven years ago, Dan and Wes made the bold move to Scottsdale, AZ where Dan happily started a second career selling residential real estate. He loved it, becoming an top producer for Realty Executives, and frequently used his creative and artistic talents to stage homes and help potential buyers see a property potential.
When he wasn’t working, Dan played competitive bridge acquiring Master’s status. He helped decorate homes of many family and friends and loved to travel with Wes. His most memorable trips were with close friends and family members to Hawaii, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, and New England. He always made time to show visitors what he loved most about living in the southwest, its best restaurants and sights. Danny lived for his family and friends and to them will forever be remembered for his creativity, generous nature, caring ways, and sense of humor. Fiercely independent and courageous, he made the difficult decision in his last few weeks to look for the best in life and to enjoy the time he had under the capable care of The Hospice of the Valley rather than undergoing difficult cancer treatments to prolong his life.
Danny is preceded in death by his beloved Wes and parents, Sam and Florence of Scottsdale, AZ. He is survived by his brother, R. Keith Oditt and wife Judy of LaGrange KY, sister Diana Oditt Hammer of Tewksbury, MA and, sister-in-law, Joan Lockwood of Scottsdale, AZ., along with much loved and numerous friends, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and cousins from all around the country.
Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to one of his favorite non-profits and charities: HOSPICE OF THE VALLEY (Eckstein Center and Team O of Scottsdale), THE ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION or MAYO CLINIC.
