As a child, Darlene grew up in Ohio and cherished playing outside with her brothers. She had wonderful parents and spoke of her childhood with a smile. In her teen years she came to know the Lord and was baptized. From then on, her love for the Lord was always at the forefront of everything she did.
As a young woman, she married Walter Gerber and was a wonderful and devoted wife and mother. She always appreciated natural beauty and lovely gardens; she and Walter enjoyed planning and caring for their beautiful yards. She loved to travel and taking scenic drives. She also enjoyed being at home and being an excellent homemaker. She liked cooking and opening her home to others. Many friends and relatives recall a warm welcome and home-cooked meal courtesy of her generous, servant-heart that enjoyed being a hostess. You never lacked good discussion in her company as she was a wonderful conversationalist, and an even better listener. Family knew they could come to her with any topic, and she would care, wisely knowing just when to speak or when to listen.
Family was so important to her, she deeply loved her three children, and was thrilled by their own children, and then again by their children’s children. Darlene loved all children, and the children all loved her. She was playful and fun, always willing to do what the kids enjoyed, maybe it was having a tea party, or hide-and-seek, or board games. Just count her in, because she would love to play. Even in her later years, she would still join in on games and puzzles, and would still be the one making jokes and giggling. Her laugh was special to many; it was contagious. Her giggles would take over the whole room, and suddenly everyone would be laughing and smiling.
The Lord used Darlene to abundantly produce all the fruits of the Spirit. These gifts supported and strengthened people all around her. His love shown through her and brightened our lives. Her joy and wisdom inspired and taught us, and her example will live on in us.
Darlene was a loving mother to three faithful children; Bryce (Ursula), Corinne (John Gerhardt) and Todd (Marta). She was delighted to be called Grandma by her 8 grandchildren: Laura (Dave Pentsa), Marie (Dan Pantelic), Stephen (Jennifer), Denise (Matt Skinner), Jonathan, Andrew, Alexandra, and Michael.
She was overjoyed by her 16 great-grandchildren: Joel, Leah, Gabrielle, Jacob, Julia, Ava, Autumn, Jaxon, Sasha, Kenz, Elijah, Alix, Tyler, Seth, Luke, and Logan. Darlene is survived by her brother Art Yarhaus, as well as her sisters-in-law: Marge and Nancy Yarhaus. She is now reunited with her husband Walter Gerber, brothers Richard and Daniel Yahraus, as well as her parents Christine and Andrew Yahraus.
Her steadfast love for the Lord was an encouragement to all. Her example of love, kindness, hospitality, and joy made her incredibly easy to love. Her family is truly blessed.
