Donald was born in Morehouse, Missouri on August 8th, 1934. The family moved from Missouri to Queen Creek, Arizona in 1951.
He married Bertha Vanschaick on July 11th, 1953 in Mesa, Arizona and then they had moved to Phoenix in 1956. He went to auctioneer school in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1960 and graduated as a Colonel. In 1994, Don and Bertha started going to gun shows and antique shows, this is something they would continue to enjoy. He worked as a cowboy on the Ellsworth Ranch until 1956 when they moved to Phoenix. He would also go on to starting Sunday Church Services at these shows. They would continue to enjoy doing this until 2020 when COVID hit.
In the past 10 years he kept himself busy by walking two blocks every day in the neighborhood he had lived in since 1963. On these walks he started collecting bottles, plastic and aluminum cans, which is how he became known as “The Can Man”. His hobbies also included collecting Western and Cowboy memorabilia.
