Dear Bolkema Family,
I was watching the news that showed the fiery crash with two trucks near Gainsville, FL. When I saw the write-up in the Phoenix Christian newsletter, I put two and two together. What a shock! No words can be expressed, except The Word!
I Corinthians 15:54 - 56 says " ...Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death is your sting? ... But thanks be to God! HE gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!"
Some years ago, my psychologist friend from Ontario, CA said when he lost their son, "Now, I belong to a category of 'Parents Who Have Lost A Son'! Their son, Alan, had been friends with our son, Mark, all through school days, including Calvin College. Alan was attending Westmont in Santa Barbara during his junior year in college and was on a Spring Mission Trip to Mexico, when a driver crossed the median and hit them head-on. Six people were killed, including Alan and two other students from Westmont. Mark named his only son, Christian Alan, in memory.
We know that God's ways are not our ways, but that doesn't lessen the pain that is felt. We send our hugs, our love and our prayers that God will make His SHALOM clear to each one of you. We will not be able to attend the funeral, but we will be their with our prayers that you may experience comfort and encouragement from your family, friends and community. ........ George & Betty (BTW -- Doug looks so much like his mother!)
P.S. It's ironic that we will be flying to the Dominican Republic for the 'Destination Wedding' of our oldest granddaughter on the 17th. All members of our immediate family (16) will be attending. Again, God's ways are not our ways throughout all of life.
