Born on June 10, 1932, Evelyn lived a vibrant life defined by dedication to her family, a legendary work ethic, and an unmatched sense of hospitality. Together, in the early 1950s, Evelyn and her husband, Joe Miller, began working and eventually managing the legendary El Chorro Lodge, an Arizona landmark. They purchased the historic property in 1974.
As longtime business owners and icons of the Valley, they transformed El Chorro into a welcoming haven for locals, travelers, and Hollywood stars alike. Evelyn was celebrated as the ultimate hostess, known for making every guest feel uniquely special and genuinely welcomed.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe, who passed away in 2014. She is survived by her brother, David Awbery, and numerous nieces and nephews. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of warmth, elegance, and community spirit that helped to shape Arizona for generations.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 16, 2026 at 11 AM at Green Acres Mortuary & Cemetery 401 N. Hayden Rd. Scottsdale, AZ 85257. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Scottsdale Boys and Girls Club of Scottsdale.
