Hazel M. Newman

Hazel May Newman passed away on March 9, 2017. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 21, 1927. Hazel is survived by her son Roy Vopal Jr, grandson Roy Vopal III, granddaughter Lorinda Kehr and her husband Jeffery Kehr. Together, Hazel and her late husband Ray had 8 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Her parents were Omar Ford and Vina Wells.

Hazel lost the love of her life, Ray Bowen Newman, just 29 days before her death. Just before her passing, Hazel fell ill. When her doctor visited her she stated she was suffering from a broken heart.

Hazel and Ray divided their time between homes in Phoenix, Arizona and Missoula, Montana. They loved their Montana life where they kept a productive vegetable garden spent summers canning vegetables, making Huckleberry pie and enjoying many friendships. They loved to travel the world. They visited many beautiful places, but Maui was always their favorite.

Services will be held graveside at Green Acres Cemetery

Following the service, a reception will be held at Hazel and Ray's favorite restaurant, Charleston's, in Chandler AZ.
