She was born June 24, 1930 to George and Lorraine Russell in San Diego, California. The family relocated to Tucson in the 30's in hopes that the clear desert air would help her asthma symptoms. After a brief stint in Montana, they moved back to Arizona and finally settled in Phoenix, where she met and later married her teenage sweetheart, Hubert. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Monty and Gary. Irene worked as a nursing home director in the valley, and was an active member of Mountain View Baptist Church near Indian School and 44th St. for many years until she relocated to an assisted living facility. An avid fan of John Wayne movies, cheddar biscuits, and peanut m&m's, Irene enjoyed spending time with family and friends, attending church, and reading.
Irene is preceded in death by her parents, her son Gary, and beloved husband Hubert.
She is survived by her son Monty and wife Carolyn of Lone Oak Tx, grandchildren Jeremy and Amanda Christian, Meagan and Chris Allen, and Jonathan and Ashley Christian, all of Tx; her adoring (younger) brother James, as well as six great grandchildren, her niece, two nephews, many great nieces and nephews and cousins.
