James Walter Eugene (Gene) Thompson

James Walter Eugene (Gene) Thompson, passed away on January 9, 2019, to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born in Indiana, Gene would later proudly serve 8 years in the Navy and become a Navy Reservist in Arizona. He married his sweetheart, Gaye, in 1956, and they soon found themselves living the Navy life and moving to Arizona. While employed at Motorola in Scottsdale, as a contract manager, Gene achieved both his Bachelor of Science and MBA at ASU. During retirement, he was recruited by Orbital Sciences, in Gilbert, AZ, for his respected skills. A deeply religious and dedicated family man, Gene always found time to coach his son’s baseball and bowling teams. Gene’s favorite sport was golf and he enjoyed participating in the Motorola Golf Twilight League, and cheering for the Phoenix Suns. Gene leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, Gaye; their children, Gary (Linda), Kevin, and Keith; his grandchildren, TJ (Emily), Jared, Tiffany, and Derek; great grandchild, Natalie; his brothers and sisters in Indiana, Ralph (Clarice), Loretta Dudley (Don), Lewis (Nancy), Beverly McComiskey, and Leo (Sandi); special sister-in-law Shirl Harris (Frank); and many beloved nieces and nephews will miss Gene’s loving smiles and hugs. A private, family only service will be held at Green Acres. We will dearly miss his LOVE, smile and positive attitude.
