S. Jasbir Arora was a beloved member of the Arizona, Indian, and Sikh Communities. He left us tragically on Feb 14, 2019. He was an intelligent and vibrant man; a loving husband, father and grandfather as well as a mentor to countless men and women in his field of expertise. He was known for his sense of humor and ability to make a person feel welcome in any situation. Whether it was the first time he met a person or the thousandth, he had a way to make a person feel special. A gentle smile and a quick wit were the hallmarks of his personality. Often times he would greet his children and loved ones with a hug and ask them to “squeeze a little bit harder.” He would welcome any new person to the community by inviting them to his home for tea, and he would be the first to volunteer at the Gurdwara for any seva (selfless service to the gathering.) In fact, his favorite service was to hand out parshad.
Born in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh India on September 1, 1948 to S. Harnam Singh and Sdn. Harbans Kaur, he immigrated to the United States in 1979 after graduating engineering college at Punjab Engineering College (PEC) in Chandigarh. He spent the early part of his time in the US in California and then moved to Phoenix in 1985 where he worked at APS for 25 years. During his time there he obtained his MBA from Arizona State University in 1999. After retiring from APS in 2010, he started his own successful consulting firm.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Simran Kaur, and was the proud father and best friend to his children Reetu and Gagandeep as well as their spouses, Luis and Angili. He was an extremely loving grandfather to Zaara, Jiyani, Kale and Kavan and relished spending time with them. He invested time learning popular video games such as Minecraft so that he could play with them. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Paramjeet Kaur, and is also survived by his sisters Rajinder Kaur, Tejinder Kaur, Ravinder Kaur and brother Surjeet Singh
