John Spencer Conklin, or “Jack,” was born in Newark, New Jersey on September 10, 1920 and completed his schooling in New York City. Upon graduating from high school, he enlisted in the US Army where he served during WW2. John met his future wife Alice in Washington, D.C. where they both worked in Air Transport Command. This February 24th, they celebrated 70 years of marriage. John and Alice moved to Phoenix in 1946 where John worked for American Airlines and Western Airlines. In retirement he volunteered for the Red Cross, United Blood Services and Scottsdale Presbyterian Church. John died Friday, April 15, 2016 at the age of 95 from complications after a fall on March 11th. John is survived by his wife Alice and their four children: Sandra of Scottsdale, Arizona, Stephen (Betsy) of South Padre Island, Texas, James of Stanley, North Dakota, and Donald (Mich) of Portland, Oregon. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Amai, Eric, Steve, and Sam, and by his three great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Macy and Max.
