April 11, 1944 - September 29, 2026
John Ognjanov was born April 11, 1944 in Bulgaria and passed away peacefully at age 82 after a brief illness on September 29, 2026 at Thunderbird Home in Glendale, AZ.
He immigrated to America with his mother, Ada and father, Michael, in his early teen years. He met and married the mother of his two daughters in California. They moved to Arizona in 1971 and later divorced. He remained in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area for the remainder of his life.
He worked in food service design, starting out with Greyhound designing kitchen facilities and had a long, successful career doing engineering and design for everything from national park lodges to the concession facilities for the Arizona Diamondbacks ballpark. He was very proud of being an engineer for many years before he retired.
Through his work, he met the love of his life, Cynthia(Cindy), and they married in 1998. They shared a long life together both at home and work, creating many happy memories as they built a life and traveled the world together. They spent many an hour cheering on the Denver Broncos both in person with family and watching every game on tv. They also enjoyed playing and watching golf, tending to their gardens and spending time with family until she preceded him in death in July, 2026.
He was a man who valued learning and experiencing the world around him. He was fluent in multiple languages and traveled to many different countries throughout his life. He collected art pieces from his travels and enjoyed learning about different cultures and the people he met along the way.
He is survived by his two daughters, multiple grandchildren, and extended family. Besides his beloved wife Cindy, he was preceded in death by his father and mother.
A service for the family and interment will follow at a later date at Green Acres Mortuary and Cemetery.
