

Josephine Contreras, daughter of the late Jesus Mendoza and Maria Santibañez Mendoza was born on September 18th, 1943, in Scottsdale, Arizona. She was a devout member of the Roman Catholic Church and practiced at St. Daniel the Prophet Roman Catholic Church, she also had a passion for making rosaries for anyone who needed them. She was united in holy matrimony to Alvino Contreras, who preceded her in death on December 24th, 1992. This union was blessed with six children. She was also preceded in death by her sister Guadalupe Varela. She passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on February 13th. Her life will forever be cherished in the lives of her sibling: Fernando Mendoza, her children and their spouses: Mary Contreras, Jesse Contreras and his wife Lisa Heatherly-Contreras, Joseph Contreras and his wife Rowena Contreras, Margaret Contreras-Caran and her husband Marijan Caran, Patricia Contreras-Smith and her husband Merritt Smith, and Guadalupe Contreras. She also leaves behind five grandchildren to remember her: Noah Contreras and Cruz Contreras (both children of Jesse Contreras and Lisa Heatherly-Contreras), Brianna Smith and Jesse Smith (both children of Patricia Contreras-Smith and Merritt Smith), and Jireh Contreras (child of Joseph Contreras and Rowena Contreras).
A visitation for Josephine will be held Friday, February 18, 2022 at 4:00 PM at Green Acres Mortuary and Cemetery, 401 N. Hayden Rd., Scottsdale, Arizona 85257. A rosary service will occur Friday, February 18, 2022 at 6:00 PM, 401 N. Hayden Rd., Scottsdale, Arizona 85257. A funeral service will occur Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 10:00 AM, 401 N. Hayden Rd, Scottsdale, Arizona 85257. A graveside and burial service will occur Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 11:30 AM at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th St., Phoenix, Arizona 85008. A reception will occur Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Vista del Camino Recreation Center, 7700 E Roosevelt St., Scottsdale, Arizona 85257.
