Dear all who knew Joy,

I was only acquainted with Joy. However, she means a great deal to people who mean a great deal to me. As such, I wanted to send my condolences. When I first met her through Anne & Steven M., I recall that her gorgeous smile and welcome was amazing! Her passion for causes in life affected my life In ways impossible to count. I am so sorry for your loss and wish you all Peace.

Dear Steven, Annika, Linda, Jody, Robin, Tommy, Nicki and your families,

I've heard it said that when a person dies too young, it's because God needs them by His side. I can understand why He would need Joy. To reassure Him about the love of us humans for our planet and everything on it. Joy reveled in travelling the world, hopped on planes regularly to far away places, with a soft spot of course for Vienna (and luckily for me, for Paris too). In the past months she told me she was watching real time walks in Vienna just to celebrate its beauty. She loved people too. Had friends all over the planet. Was understanding, kind, seeing always the good in others, generous and curious. She recently asked me about the French principle of “laicïté” to try and understand it better. In Paris, she wandered all neighborhoods, the chic and the shady, enjoying them all. Animals she adored and trees too. 

As a child, Joy was the uncontested leader of our pack.  Taught us backflips and how to curl our hair.  And came from a family who made their home our home, in which we all felt welcome and safe whilst gorging on popcorn and chocolate chip cookies (thank you Linda and Jody). 

She turned her passions into work projects and successfully sought them through with, as always, her husband right by her side. 

My one comfort in my friend's passing is knowing what a wonderful life she had in the most loving of families with a husband who was her rock and who, as she once told me, thought she “was it” and a daughter who was a constant source of pride and whom she loved to bits. My other comfort is knowing she left this world with absolute faith in God’s welcome for her on the other side.

I’ll miss her company, her warmth, her elegance, her grace.

Mark and I are immensely saddened to hear the news of Joy's passing. Please know that we are keeping you all close in our hearts.  

I so appreciated Joy's passion for every cause she took on. One was never less for having spent time with Joy. In a world of superficiality, Joy was all authenticity and care. I am utterly grateful for the moments I enjoyed in her company.

Dear Joy,

This is Pati from Thailand.  We were at VIS and AIS together.  Even though we did not hang out together but you were  a joy and lively as your name.  We left Vienna for our seperate lives but reconnected again on facebook.  You were so passionate about wildlife conservation and into vaccination.  You brought to my attention, areas that I have never thought about.  We had a few chats and discussions.  
In 2011, faith brought  us together. I was with my family in Washington DC for 3 days and you were there for a meeting.  It was wonderful of you to come and see us and walked to and through the Madame Troussau together.  My husband and children still remembered aunt Joy.  It was so nice to see you again.
I was hoping to see you again but now you have gone to brighten up and spread your smile and joy in heaven.  

Rest well my friend. I will send my love for you from Thailand.

To my dear friend Joy. Loved having you in my life. You were such an influence on my teen years.  You may have left us, but you live on in my thoughts and memory.

To Steven and Annika. Robin, Tommy and Nicki and to Linda and Jody. I am so sad for your loss. I still can’t quite believe she has gone. And can’t imagine what you are going through.
We thought we’d be seeing her at the next reunion. Sadly no., but while she might not be there in person, she will be in spirit. Joy was aptly named. I will remember her for the Joy she brought me. I went to high school with Joy in Vienna, Austria. She was a gifted athlete, an intelligent and hard-working student, and, most importantly, a fun and caring friend. That smile of hers could light up the whole building. 
I am deeply sorry for your loss. A light has gone out from this world.

Steven and Family,

There have been a few times in my life when surprises have stopped me in my tracks.  This is one of those times and I am deeply sorry for your loss.  I don't think I can adequately express the sadness and sheer shock of Joy's passing, so I won't try.  I will do this, however:

I will celebrate Joy and the zeal in which she lived life.  
I will marvel at the legacy of passion for causes she so dearly cared for that enrich our lives and make the world a better place
I will forever remain in awe of her talent and creativity in making everything she touched better: food, friendships, products - everything
I will share my sentiments with you in mourning her loss, the great hole she has left in our lives but also the equally important aspiration she would want for all of us to do better - for each other, for our planet, for humanity.
She will be missed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
