Our hearts are filled with sorrow at the passing of June Lois Meyer Becker, who died peacefully at her home, surrounded by the love of her family. June had just celebrated a milestone – her 85th birthday! June was born in Chicago, Illinois to Nathan Charles Meyer and Bess Rubenstein Meyer on March 21, 1929. She grew up with her older brother Allen H. Meyer and enjoyed a wonderful childhood with family and friends in Chicago, Illinois and Miami Beach, Florida. It was through her loving brother’s best friend that she met her husband Gerald H. Becker, MD, to whom she was married for 56 years. June and Gerry had four loving children – Fredric Charles Becker (D-2011), Jeffrey Becker, Carol Frances Becker Levey and Ilene Natalie Becker Pylman. In Chicago, June dedicated herself to all activities for her children and donated any free time to causes close to her heart – education, healthcare and the arts. She also had a decidedly sporty side to her, as she enjoyed playing golf

In Chicago, June dedicated herself to all activities for her children and donated any free time to causes close to her heart – education, healthcare and the arts. She also had a decidedly sporty side to her, as she enjoyed playing golf could begin practicing medicine in Paradise Valley, Arizona. They were fond of Arizona, as they had been attending Spring Training in Scottsdale for more than ten years previously. In Phoenix, with her children all in school, June ran business operations for her husband’s medical practice, while also serving her community by volunteering in the Scottsdale School District, the Phoenix Jewish Federation and with the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra. In addition, she served on a Governor’s Task Force for Education, helping administer a new system for selecting textbooks in middle schools throughout the State – a system that is still in force to this day.

Ever mindful of her Jewish roots, June was an active participant in her synagogue – Temple Solel – a place she called her ‘second home’ and where she sought comfort and community. She and Gerry were one of the original participants in the Saturday Torah class and in addition, established the Becker Adult Education Fund to support educational and spiritual activities for the synagogue. She was so proud to call herself a congregant of Temple Solel! June had been diagnosed with a recurrence of breast cancer first treated 25 years ago. For the last 18 months, she had been actively sustained by the support of her doctors, but also the care, love and support of Hospice of the Valley Palliative and Hospice Care Services. With the help of these extraordinary teams, along with her constant caregiver and friend, Alicia Matsuhiro, June enjoyed some of her happiest moments with family and friends – a blessing for her as well as all who loved her.

June’s motto was “Today is the first day of the rest of my life.” She lived every day to the fullest and attempted to bring joy to at least one person each new day. She was a rare “Lady”, unpretentious, strong, accepting, and totally caring.

June is survived by her children Jeff Becker, Ilene (Becker) Pylman and Michael Pylman, and Carol (Becker) Levey and Robert Levey; her five grandchildren, Natalie Elizabeth Pylman, Megan Nicole Pylman, Brooke Elizabeth Pylman, Alexandra Becker Levey and Joshua Benjamin Levey; her beloved brother Allen H. Meyer, her sister-in-law Suzanne Novak Meyer, her nieces Lynn Meyer Gutzmer, Nancy Beth Meyer, Frances Zien Packenham; her nephews Charles Meyer, Peter Gutzmer, Herb Zien, Howard Zien and Donald Zien and their spouses and children; her grand nephew and niece Todd & Hiromi Yampol and their daughter Maya, David Yampol & Michael Yampol; her close cousins Debbie & Bob Bizar, Richard Meyer, Doug, Stacey and David Meyer, Caren Friedman, Muriel & Howard Rose and Joyce & Roger Isaacs; as well as countless family and friends whom she cherished with all her heart. Dear Becker family: your mom was the final link to me in decades of Becker influence and the joy of being together as family. I grew to love visiting Phoenix and all the great times over the years. June held the whole thing together for all of us and was warm and loving without missing a moment. Thanks for the great times and beautiful memories. Love always, Don, Jane Carly & Jake.

I was a frequent visitor to "our cousins" the Beckers in Chicago and recall innumerable joyous family celebrations, orchestrated by Aunt June. Phoenix was much farther so we visited every 5 or 6 years. The most amazing thing about June was that even when 5 years had passed we would chat as though we had just spoken yesterday. Time and distance mattered not. She took a genuine, in-depth personal interest in us all

Memory of her joyous laugh will live with me forever. My family joins me in sincere and warm condolences to Jeff, Carol, Ilene and your families. We all share your sadness and loss.

I have a friend of June's for many years. We were part of Sarah's group and then the once a month lunch group. Her friendship meant a great deal to me. I will miss her, Linda Harden
