Surrounded by many loving friends, Karen Schuman, of Phoenix AZ, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, after losing her life-long battle with Crohns Disease.
Karen was born in Ypsilanti, MI on June 4, 1947, to Eugene and Shirley Schuman, their only child. Although she lost her father Eugene many years ago, her mother Shirley, now 92, still resides in Manchester, MI.
Her formative years were spent in Michigan where she attended Michigan State University and held various positions with firms in the area.
Karen loved the sun and she liked heat—lots of hot weather was her thing. So in 1978 she said goodbye to the Michigan winters she disliked so much and headed to Phoenix, AZ where she got what she wanted—lots of heat!
Karen worked in the executive offices of Garrett/Honeywell for 20 years and continued on to work for Gaylor Active Money Management, Inc. for 10 years as an Office Administrator. Karen’s vibrant personality, imagination and quick wit made her an office favorite wherever she worked.
As was her wont, Karen managed to win the hearts and minds of everyone she met. If ever a soul was put on this earth to help others, it was Karen. No matter what your need, she was there; she never said no and ultimately helped everyone she knew. Karen’s favorite pastime was cooking and feeding all her friends was her passion. Her passing was sudden as she put up such a valiant fight against the illness which felled her, and she will be sorely missed by her many friends who not only counted on her endless generosity of spirit but enjoyed her delightful sense of humor which made life a little nicer whenever you were privileged to be in her presence!
Karen leaves her two beloved feline children, Keri Ann and Kashmere.
There will be a celebration of Karen’s life at a later date.
If you wish to make a charitable donation in Karen’s name, she would wish you to give to Arizona Humane Society, Arizona Animal Welfare League or Sojourner Center.
