Dear, Sweet Kent(y),  

If it's true that a hero is someone who rises above the norm, you Kent were a hero.

You were as human as the rest of us, but you were a perfect soul.  Although I am devastated by my loss, I am not surprised that God has taken you Home.  I am convinced that God was only waiting on you to establish a relationship with Him and then -- in a blink of an eye, you went Home. 

In the months since your passing I am now better able to pay tribute to all that you were and will always be to me.  First, and foremost, you were the most committed family man I have ever met.  The dedication to your mother on every level was heroic and I know the time spent with her was as much for you as it was for her.  I cannot list all those who were actually a part of your "family" but in addition to your siblings, inlaws and neices, I was lucky to be included as a member, along with Budster and countless friends and clients.  We are all blessed for every moment of your time, every thought/thoughtful gift and selfless act you have given us.  I am so profoundly humbled by having had the opportunity to dwell in your presence.  You were the Grace of God personified.

I do not believe I know another human who was so dedicated to the people in his life.  I certainly do not know another human who was so dedicated to improving himself on a daily basis. You have always been and will always be the source of inspiration to me.  You taught me so very much about life on all levels.  You lived your life being nice to everyone, never judging anyone, never assuming the worst, unwilling to even go there, completely forgiving and preforgiving people if necessary.  The only person you were relentlessly hard on was yourself.  It may have been your only real flaw, but it kept you striving to keep your garden free of weeds so only flowers would grow.

I doubt I will ever match your beauty, your grace, your love of self and others, but I will spend every day trying.  I love you so so much Kenty, and I miss you and Budster everyday.  It is so hard moving forward without having you around every corner of my life.  Please stay with me and ask God if you can be my angel 'cause you know I so desperately need to have one who knows what a mess I am and is not afraid of the challenge. :)  

Thank you for sharing your family and friends with me.  It was always a treat to be included in the fun and celebrations of life.

Dear Family, I was shocked and saddened by Kent's passing. Some things we just don't know about a person until it is too late, as this was true with Kent. I met Kent racing slot cars about 6 years ago so I don't go back very far in his life but from the stories told by Randy, Lynne, Tonja and Maggie I can only say what a great person he was. The time he spent with his Family as short as it was looked filled with as  much love as anyone could share. I remember him telling me of taking his Mom shopping at Goodwill on 50% off days and him even buying me a t-shirt from a place called the Hot Rod Grill in Phoenix, what a pleasent suprise it was when he presented it to me. To say Kent will be missed in our Club is a huge understatement and I can't even imagine the hole it has left in your hearts at his loss. It is reassuring he is in a better place. Lynne & Family,  my condolences on Kent's passing.  I was one of the guys that hung out with Kent and others back in high school and our early 20's.  We worked together at Energy Savers.  We had many good times.  Some I won"t speak about here, but it was pretty harmless fun.  Man have times changed.  Van trips to Sunrise to ski and a Flagstaff run to a Styx and Cars concert stick in my mind formost.  Also Kents passion about certain things such as Elvis and some crazy kind of station wagon? Anyway, we lost touch over the years, but those fun times will always stick.  God Bless you all.

Kent was the good looking older brother that all of Lynne's girlfriends wanted to date. He was beyond cool and a free spirit. God bless you Kent and keep you close.

It was such a shock losing Kent so soon.  He has been our landscaper and friend for over 10 years.  I always looked forward to our visits on Friday mornings where we shared our grievances and discussed all the different landscaping techniques.  Hearing his blower and knowing he was taking care of everything will be missed.  He was a sweet man and I feel fortunate to have known him.  Rest in peace, Kent.

I was in Kent's life when we were young...I remember the trips to the river, and atc rides that we all went on every weekend! I had the best time going to the clubs dancing!!! I called him, in our 30's, I guess I had wondered what he was doing...He sounded good! I wish I had stayed in touch with him....

Sorry to hear of Kent's passing. I met Kent in the early 80's when responding to a “room for rent” ad in his house south of Broadway.  In hindsight, I got much more than just a place to stay. Through Kent, I also got a job and a bunch of new friends; as Kent hooked me up at Energy Saver where he was working and where a great bunch of Kent's friends were working. As I was in transition, I only rented at Kent's house through the summer. At the time New Wave was the reigning music genre of the day. Kent was a fan and had the edgy attitude and a Billy Idol look-alike thing going to boot. Kent and the guys were to become good friends with whom I would have some good times that summer and off and on for the next few years before moving on with our real lives. While Kent could project an air of having a bit of a gruff exterior, he was a friend that you could count on, always fair, and a straight shooter. Besides, you always suspected that he was a bit of a closet softie by the way the he loved that dog (Sam). Though the years have passed as we all have progressed through our lives, I still remember Kent and will forever appreciate his friendship and the friendships of others that I have experienced through my acquaintance with Kent. As long as one is in people's memories, a person is never truly gone.

Kent was the Construction Supervisor who built my first home, which I still live in 23 1/2 years later. He took care of our landscaping all these years too. Much more than that, Kent was a kind-hearted man and great friend. He always did the right thing. My heart is heavy, shocked and saddened by the news of his passing. Things I learned from Kent:

- You can come late to the party and still have a good time.
- Look for the absurd or even just "slightly off" in the day-to-day.  
- You've got to be able to laugh....including at yourself.
- Elvis is NEVER out of style.
- Just because you know a person's history, don't think you know their politics.
- You need never grow old at heart if you maintain a child's sense of wonder at the world.
- Always set aside time to play.
- Count your blessings.
- Time spent with friends is time well-spent.

Dear family, we are so sad for your loss.  Kent came to our house to race his slot cars many times.  He always made a point to thank me for cooking and he even brought a sack full of oranges to share.  He will be greatly missed. We are very sad at the loss of our friend.  Kent will be thought of at every camping trip as well as all the parties.  We will always remember how Kent would rake out his whole tent area, we would all be jealous because he had the nicest camp site, such the landscaper.

I will miss my friend. I prefer to  remember him as driving around with Sam in that old Chevy Luv pick up he used to have. You left us too soon.

What a blessing it has been having Kent in our lives!  His caring, kind soul for his family and friends will never be forgotten. Every time I drive by a Big Lots or Hallmark store I will think of Kent.  Many times Peter and I would go shopping for that 'special' car for Kent.  You will always be in our hearts. Kent, Dear Friend.  I just don't know what to say.  You're an irreplaceable friend. We're going to miss you so much. I am lost for words. Who am I going to talk about NHRA with now? You were there when we needed help at our house, from landscaping to remodeling. You and I have seen probably every cool car in the Valley, maybe even the entire Southwest! Our plan was to find and fix up some cool cars and cruise together for a long time. Well, every drive, every cruise, or bike ride I go on, you will be with me every mile sharing every cool scene, every cool event.

I can't tell how many times I've suffered broken fingernails due to Kent's water volleyball serves.  I'll miss that.  I'll also miss seeing his smiling face at family get-togethers.  Even though he wasn't my brother by blood, he always made me feel like part of the family.  So much so, that Mackenzie thought he was her uncle.  And as cool as he was, he never told her he wasn't her uncle.  We will miss you greatly Kent.

Kent -  the one day words escape me and you aren't here to enjoy it!   You were there for me every single time I needed you, all these years, even for the most ridiculous chick requests - without fail.  I am sorry I cannot say the same of myself.   I might as well have been 100,000 miles away ... and now you are.

I had the fortunate task of contacting all of those listed in your phone.  Apparently you were quite the something!  Clearly this is a  monumental loss to all who knew you.

My dearest brother Kent, I miss you so much.  I know that you are in Heaven racing cars with Dad and you have Sam in the backseat. I will strive to find the small joys and humor in life that you pointed out to me time and time again. You had an amazing gift of really being in the moment and noticing even the smallest of things. You are such a blessing and constantly gave of yourself. You have been truly a godsend in dealing with mom's alzheimers over the last several years. Mom adores you and I know she will miss her Saturday Goodwill runs with you and all of the things you did for/with her. She'd say, "You know... that Kent, he's such a neat son and he just loves to go to Goodwill!" Of course we all know that SHE was the one that really loves Goodwill, she just can't remember! I'll look forward to doing some cycling with you in Heaven. God must have needed another Angel in Heaven...

I was saddened to read the obituary for Kent in this mornings paper. I a dental hygienist and have seen Kent for many years now for his dental cleanings. I have always been so touched by his strong work ethic and his devotion to his mother's care. My condolences to your family.

Kent was a great friend for many years. We lost touch in the 90's but I have many, many, good memories. We met around slot cars when we were both kids and grew up together in the 70's & 80's.
