

Lydia Cummings, an 88-year-old resident of Glendale, Arizona, peacefully passed away on March 24, 2026, in her residence due to complications from dementia and heart failure. She is survived by her spouse, Robert L. Cummings. Their love story began on August 11, 1980, when they exchanged vows at the U.S. embassy in Tokyo, Japan, stationed at Yokota Air Base. Their marriage spanned an incredible 45 1/2 years, during which 11 years were spent as an Air Force wife. This journey took her to various countries, including Japan (Yokota AFB, 1980-82), England (RAF Mildenhall AFB, 1982-88), and Germany (RAF Ramstein AFB, 1988-1990), Luke Air Force Base (1990-1991) before Robert’s retirement from the AIR FORCE.
Lydia Cummings was born in Mainz, Germany, on August 15, 1937. After 12 years of study, she completed her high school education at the Wiesbaden educational institution. Her professional career was diverse, encompassing roles in the wine industry (3 years), AFFAES Bowling Alley (1 yr) nursing aid babies ward at a hospital (5 years), potato factory (3 years), babysitting (6 years), and dry cleaning (34 years).
Lydia Cummings was a dedicated member of the NCO WIVES CLUB of the U.S.A.F. for 10 years. In her free time, she enjoyed various recreational activities, including bowling, raising rescue dogs, traveling, exploring flea markets, thrift stores, and garage sales, and breeding her beloved Yorkshire terries that started in England and continued throughout Glendale, Arizona.
Lydia Cummings, a remarkable figure in the world of bowling, accomplished significant milestones. From 1969 to 1971, she held the title of the state champion female bowler of Maine. In 1978 to 1980, she was honored as the female bowler of the year in Japan. Her exceptional skills were evident in her average score of 216 in the female leagues for the Air Force. Lydia’s bowling prowess was further displayed by her remarkable achievements, including a perfect game score of 300, a series over 700, and a series over 800.
In Glendale, Arizona, Lydia Cummings, a beloved figure, passed away. Her passing leaves behind her husband, Robert L. Cummings; three daughters: Anissa M. Cummings of Myton, Utah; Mrs. Angela M. Knight (Joseph) of Whiterocks; and Mrs. Aneedra M. Detwiler (Arie) of Rolan, Montana. Lydia survived by thirteen grandchildren, ten of whom live in Utah, two in Montana, and one in Arizona. Additionally, she has twenty-five great-grandchildren, twenty of whom live in Utah, three in Montana, one in Oregon, and one in Arizona.
Lydia was survived by one sister, Heidi; one niece; and one nephew. And many friends in Wiesbaden, Germany. Before her passing, Lydia had lost her father, Fritz Kissel; her mother, Ria Werthmann; three aunts; two uncles; and one sister, Paula, in Germany.
Lydia was formally known as Hines of Louisiana from her first marriage, which she later divorced and whom they loved her everyday still until her passing. And had friends in many states including AZ, GA, IL, LA, OK, OR. They knew her throughout her life and remained friends with.
Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to her family, serving as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and cherished friend. Her legacy will be cherished by all who knew her, and she will forever be remembered as a remarkable individual. Rest in peace, my love. I will always love you and always be with you.
