Marla was a quiet, observing personality who loved to make people laugh with her dry wit and those who knew Marla recognized her as a kind and giving person with a huge heart.
Marla graduated from Coronado High School, Class of 1972, after which she attended business college, choosing a career as a legal assistant, working for one of the partners of Perkins Coie Brown & Bain P.A. for the greater part of her career and from which law firm Marla retired.
One of Marla’s loves was interior design and she kept herself busy designing her home and decorating for her annual Christmas tree trimming parties hosted by her for her friends from work. Upon retiring, Marla sold her home downsizing to a much more manageable space. Marla again worked on the interior design of her apartment and placed seasonal decorations at her door to, as Marla put it “charm people who pass by my door”.
Marla had a penchant for traveling and traveled to the Philippines with her family as a young girl, California and Hawaii for business, and took her dream vacation to Africa with her best friend and mother. Marla also traveled with her siblings around the United States and Europe.
But Marla’s weekends during football season belonged to her Dad. Marla spent Saturdays watching football with her Dad, especially when the Nebraska Cornhuskers were playing. All yelling ensued!
Born in Sherman, TX, on June 23, 1954, Marla was the third and youngest Daughter of USAF Lt. Colonel and Mrs. Paul J. Mercier (Dorothy Vivian Mercier) of Scottsdale, AZ, and is survived by her family and many friends. Marla’s passing leaves an enormous void in the hearts of both her family and her friends; one which can never be filled. Marla’s legacy of infectious laughter and kindness will continue to inspire us.
