Affectionately know as Marty, she graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1942 and went on to get her cosmetology license. She opened her own beauty shop and ran it until she married William Wood in 1947. She continued to maintain her cosmetology license for many years and provided beauty services to friends and family. Marty and Bill were married 73 years.
The family could always depend on Marty to pray for them. She was a woman of faith and she loved the old hymns, and could even remember the words until the end of her life.
Marty’s passion was nutrition. She loved reading and studying about vitamins and supplements and ways to promote good health. She joined the Shaklee Corporation and became a Shaklee distributor of vitamins and cleaning products. She worked her way up to a supervisor position and opened a distribution center in her home. People would come to purchase vitamins and get nutritional counseling and they would always receive encouragement and a welcome smile from Marty. She was a successful supervisor and won several cars as well as vacations.
Marty and Bill loved ballroom dancing, especially the jitterbug. You could find them at the Elk’s Club on Saturday nights enjoying the music and dancing. Their favorite past time after Bill retired, was to go on cruises.
She is survived by her daughters Darlene Wood and Donna Buckles and son-in-law Mike Buckles, 8 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
