Mary Jo (Lindblom) Hulse, 89, died Oct 20th, 2023 in Chandler, AZ. She was born in Kansas City, MO on July 7th, 1934. 3 days later she was adopted by Ralph and Roberta (Laundy) Lindblom, who raised her in Salina, Kansas. In her young adulthood, she spotted an airman she thought was cute - James E. Hulse, who she married on May 27th, 1955 in Salina, Kansas. Their son Steve was born in 1958. In 1960, Jim and Mary Jo made the choice to move to Phoenix, AZ, where they had their daughter, Patty. Mary Jo was a telephone operator for Bell and US West for her entire career. She dabbled in many hobbies over the years, allowing her to spend quality time with family and friends: she tried knitting as a way to spend time with her daughter, she scrapbooked to connect with her sisters-in-law, she loved to play bingo (and made many friends there), and she even went to Phoenix International Raceway twice a year with her son and his friends to watch the NASCAR races. After she retired and their daughter passed away, Jim and Mary Jo decided to move to Prescott Valley to be closer to their son. She was the caregiver for her husband as he battled dementia. After his passing, and with the encouragement of her son and grandchild, Mary Jo continued to volunteer with support groups for caregivers, even leading one of the groups. She also volunteered with Prescott Historical Society and the local library. In the evenings, she could be found watching TV and doing her crossword puzzles.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim Hulse; son, Steve Hulse; and daughter, Patty Markley. She is survived by her grandchild, Vern Ellingson, and an abundance of beloved extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the Prescott Valley Historical Society.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.greenacresmortuary.net for the Hulse family.
