Mary was born in Jamestown, ND, on September 30, 1928, to John and Lenore (Wilmart) Barton. She was the youngest of five children.
After graduating from high school, Mary achieved her registered nursing degree. She worked in nursing and mental health in North Dakota, Seattle and Yakima, Washington, and San Diego, California, before retiring at age 70. Following retirement, Mary moved to Arizona. She filled her retirement with a variety of activities including spending summers in North Dakota, wood-carving, and playing cards. She even re-learned how to play bridge at age 88.
Mary’s greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Steven (Faye) Peters, Catherine (Pat) Schlecht, James Peters, John (Jan) Peters, and Patty ( Bruce) Smith, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mary will be missed by family and many friends. Her life was long and filled with countless happy times.
