

Melvin David Hall was born and raised in Arizona and passed away in his El Mirage home on the afternoon of Monday, October 25th, 2021. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Nancy, his youngest son, Steven, and daughter-in-law Jennifer. Melvin is the third son of Walter & Birdie Hall and was born on November 20th, 1941. He had 3 siblings: 2 older brothers, Bobby & Jerry, and a younger sister Gloria. At the age of 18, Melvin enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served 4 years. Shortly thereafter, he married Susan Leigh Cranford, and they had 4 children which they raised in their home in Tempe, Arizona. Their firstborn was daughter Tally, then their oldest son David, their son Steven, and their youngest daughter Leann. Melvin was an Operating Engineer and worked many long days to provide for his family. He even assisted in the construction of Arizona's interstate I-17 and the US-60, as well as the Central Arizona Project which provides vital water to various parts of the state. Melvin's first love and wife Susan, battled Multiple Sclerosis most of her life, and he later became a widower. He remarried to Nancy Ray Starr, who was a close friend to his sister Gloria as a kid. After getting married, they bought a home together in El Mirage, AZ which is where he would spend the rest of his life. He retired at the age of 65. He was the master of all trades and consistently worked on projects around the home. At the age of 68, he was diagnosed with cancer of the saliva gland, but after several rounds of radiation treatments, he was medically cleared. Unfortunately, a year later he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and was told he had 5-6 months to live. He proved those doctors wrong and fought this battle for an amazing 9 years. He always kept a positive spirit through it all and even found the Lord Jesus Christ again. Melvin was under the care of hospice and passed away while in the comfort of his home with his family members close by. Sir Melvin D. Hall, was a legend to Arizona, as well to his family and friends. He had an amazing smile and an adorable chuckle. He will be truly missed but never forgotten.
