Private funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Green Acres Mortuary & Cemetery in Scottsdale. A private burial will follow at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
Michael was born in Brooklyn, New York to Jack and Cecily Flamer on August 28, 1943. He attended Mount Lebanon High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from San Fernando Valley State college and received his Masters in Communications from the Ohio State University. He served as a Captain in the Air Force and oversaw video and communications at Sheppards Air Force base in Wichita Falls.
Michael was a dynamic presence, well known for his keen intelligence and charming disposition. He made friends easily, making everyone he met instantly feel special. Michael loved traveling the world and experiencing the joys of life with his beloved wife, Mary Jean, whom he married on June 7, 1981, in Westwood, California. He adored his friends and family and kept them laughing with his witty banter and embracing them with his signature hugs.
Michael worked for many years as an advertising executive in the radio industry in Southern California, and later owned a successful executive recruiting firm. Michael had a passion for Baseball history and a love of sports. He would often express his joy talking about the Brooklyn Dodgers and his beloved Arizona Cardinals. Throughout his life he was active and coached his children’s flag football, baseball and soccer teams. Michael was involved in his community and served on home owners associations and a local cinema club.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Cecily Flamer.
Michael is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary Jean Flamer (nee Cuccinello) and their son, Joseph Flamer (Erin); his two children Michele Flamer-Powell (Carey) and Kenneth Flamer (Alysia) with his first wife, Bonnie Flamer; his brother Bob Flamer (Janice); and his treasured granddaughters, Abigail Flamer and Kaeden Flamer-Powell.
