I am so sorry to hear of Norma's passing. We bought eggs and fruit from her for over 10 years. She was a wonderful person. I used to stop and visit her periodically after she stopped selling eggs. I wish I had been able to visit her one last time. She was such a lovely person. She loved her birds and cats and was so faithful to our Lord Jesus Christ.

So sad to hear of her passing after the service and all has passed. I have known Norma since 1972,later on my Son went to work for her, then I helped with her birds, and the final thing she hand quilted a blanket for my first Grandchild. Parakeet Corner will never be the same without her there. My dear friend you will be deeply missed.

Norma was always positive.  She knew how to give constructive criticism.  She is missed, but she is with the true love of her life, her Lord and Savior.  Thank you to Pastor for the beautiful memorial service.  I met her first in Sept l990 and found her to be faithful to Christ every day of the years I knew her.  I loved her piano playing, with strength and a clear message.  May God Bless her church family and challenge them to live for the Lord as she did.

Norma was such a long time good and nice friend (known her since '94).  She was always faithful and willing to serve the Lord in teaching, singing, playing the piano or in many many other ways. She lived the motto of Elliot Road Baptist Church "The hand of God touching people".  A young man rode to/from church along with us and Norma and they always had conversations together and he misses her a lot but is glad she is with the Lord.  We look forward to seeing our sister in the Lord in glory but miss her now.

Norma was a faithful, consistent, godly servant whom we loved and she loved us.  Whenever we asked how she was doing she would reply, "We are doing fine." The "we" was the Lord and her.  She was a woman of few words but her words were full of wisdom and bore great weight.  She was my prayer partner at church and I already miss my prayer time with her.  She always enjoyed it when my AWANA class would take her cookies at Christmas and she would join in singing with us when we sang.  When we asked her to go out with us to celebrate her 87th birthday in December, she replied, "I would be delighted."  What a nice time we had together with her!!

Hebrews 6:10 says, "For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister."                            

She was truly a blessing!!

My granddaughter enjoyed having Norma as her Sunday School teacher and she said that Norma was the best teacher.  She was a blessing to our family.  Bill, Alex and Carol DeArmond

Ms. Dykes was my 5th grade teacher at Franklin Elementary and what I loved about her most was her dedication to her students and  family.  I recently had the priviledge to reconnect after 43 years of driving by her home.  I stopped in one day right before Christmas and ask her if I could give her a gift.  I put together a communicative project to help with the cleanup of her property.  I enlisted City of Mesa and all my 5 children and friends.  I then started visiting her on a weekly basis and we would sit and talk about her family and how we both grew up  in Mesa and if she only knew what a gift she gave to me and that was her loving spirit and sitting many hours playing the piano and singing with her.  I helped her with her beautiful doves and canaries she loved so dearly, but what I will cherish most is her dedication to her family and the lord.  I will miss her dearly.

Many times at Elliot Road Baptist our pastor would call for testimonies. Norma would always stand and tell us that even though she lives and is alone the Lord promises in His Word that He would never leave her or forsake her, and then she said And He never has.

Quiet and reserved, Norma loved to share her talents...playing the piano, sewing, her love for plants...but what she shared with me I'll never forget. In a very though time in my life, she came to me with just a verse to confort me. And the verse was: Romans 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose"...and I haven't forgotten.

Norma was a woman of God.  God was her first love she told Kim and I upon meeting her for the first time.  She advised me that not being able to sleep at night was a call to be in prayer and meditation and to listen for the Lord for leading.  And she was wise for this was the truth of it... for me it was a call of God to pray and meditate.  Her words I believe were anointed and was her heart. Kim and I will miss her but we praise the Lord for the time we were allowed the blessing of her presence,

Norma enriched my life with her beautiful piano playing at our church, Elliot Road Baptist.  She always had a smile and encouraging word.

Norma has been intertwined with my life throughout many years.......She was the pianist for my wedding in 1952......then when I started my first year teaching I was assigned to the same school where Norma had been teaching several years.....so she helped me through that first year in the classroom.........when I retired from the classroom I spent some time in the science department where kits were assembled and sent out to teachers all over Mesa School system.....Norma was known there as the "bird" lady.....as she furnished many beautiful feathers for the 2nd grade science kit......
Then several years ago my husband and I were searching for church in which to worship after selling our home in Overgaard.....and Norma invited us to visit Elliot Road Baptist.....and that's where we made our home.....she always had a smile and a soft and sure testimony for her Lord.....always saying God is there He has promised to never leave.us...she blessed us with her musical talents ...singing in the choir programs....and playing the piano each week.....but most of all I will miss her quick smile and friendly hello.....
