Patrick Jeffrey Boufford died at home in Scottsdale, Arizona on December 4, 2018 after a long illness. Pat was born in Detroit, Michigan, the son of the late Tom Boufford and Donna Miller Boufford. After earning a Bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in 1968 he served in the United States Army, including one tour in Vietnam where he served as a medic.
Not long after returning from the war, he suffered a tragic swimming accident, leaving him quadriplegic for the remainder of his life.
In spite of this massive injury, he was able to attain a high degree of independence: he could operate a specially equipped van and was known to travel locally independently; he rose to a leadership position in a group of disabled veterans; he tutored youngsters in math; and he had a small internet business to help supplement his care.
Throughout his life he remained most focused on his time in the service and, in particular, his time serving in Vietnam.
He leaves behind many friends, both veterans and non veterans as well as a sister, Sharon of Littleton Colorado; four brothers: Mike (Renee) of Saginaw, Michigan; Denny (Terri) of Dearborn Heights, Michigan, Tim (Diane) of Rochester, Michigan; and Barry of Albuquerque, New Mexico; as well as fifteen nieces and nephews, and fourteen great nieces and nephews
