

Philip Marlar Rye, Age 92, passed on to be with the Lord July 9, 2023. Born July 24, 1930, Santa Barbara Hospital, Los Angeles, CA. To a Pioneer Arizona family. Mr. Elvin Woodliff and Fannie Lucetia (Marlar) Rye. Moved back to Phoenix, AZ where Phil Attended North High School. After High School he worked for Bud Brown’s “Friendly Pines Camp” as a Camp Counselor and Horse Wrangler. He discovered his love of horses, and the cowboy life beckoned to him. It became his personality for life. He worked as a wrangler, a cowboy on a working AZ Ranch, riding his trusty horse “Spice”. Where he roped and sang and played the guitar as he went. He also worked for the US Forest Service in Alpine, AZ as a Firefighter, until 1957 when his Father called him and said, “You need something more permanent”. “I’m retiring soon from my job at Acme Laundry, so come and take my delivery route.” He did and he continued working there for the next 35 years. With his new stabilized lifestyle and income, he was able to marry the love of his life, Ms. Gloria B. Frye. They settled eventually into their home at 3029 E. Elm Street, PHX. They would remain married for the next 59 years until her passing in 2019. Phil remained living “At the Old Rancho” the rest of his life. In 1992, when he retired, he joined his wife Gloria in the Ministry. Living a full life together in Christ. Ministering over their Church of Christian Philosophy.
Phil was a member of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International, Metro Center Chapter, Born Again Christian's bringing gift from God of witnessing and healing. Mainly for spreading the Gospel to all People of Christ! He was an active member until his death.
In 1984 Phil served as the 1st President of “Walkabout Arizona” a walking club who took exploratory walks around the state of AZ and out of State as well.
He also served as Chaplain to The First Families of Arizona. Who are a group formed from Pioneer Arizona Families, dedicated to the Pioneers of Arizona.
